The Descendant and its Ruler: what we unconsciously expect from a partner

Partnership astrology is a fascinating branch of astrology. By analyzing sun, moon, venus and mars we may define underlying patterns which will have an impact on how we deal with our partners. But then there is also the descendant to consider... The descendant provides us with important details about how we perceive and attract potential partners. As the opposition sign of the ascendant, this may appear challenging, and so it indeed is! The rule ‚”opposites attract” springs to mind… We all learn from our partners by being confronted with contradictory ways of dealing with life. A Virgo ascendant might feel strangely attracted by people who are chaotic and let themselves drift instead of pulling themselves together. These people might need the pragmatic help of Virgo rising, but the latter might also benefit from the Pisces compassion and fantasy. The sign polarity already gives fascinating insight, but it goes much deeper, as soon as we employ the rulership dynamics. The house, in which the descendants’ ruler is placed, represents the area in our lives in which we (consciously or unconsciously) want our partners to support us. Ruler of the 7th in the 10th might signify a wish for a partner who will support us in our career and social status. In the 4th house we may want to feel cosy and build a home. In the 3rd house it is essential to have a partner who is interested in what we think and wants to talk about it. The ruler of the ascendant might also have supportive or challenging aspects, which will provide further details.
